Maguire signs for Manchester United

Manchester United have completed their third signing of the summer transfer window with defender Harry Maguire joining them from Leicester City.

The England international has penned a six-year deal with the Red Devils after they agreed on a world-record £80m fee for a central defender.

“I am delighted to have signed for this great club. I am now looking forward to meeting my new team-mates and getting the season started,” he told the club’s official website.

United had been desperate to pursue Maguire from the beginning of July, but they could not strike a deal with the Foxes, who were reluctant to reduce their £80m price tag.

Ultimately, the Mancunian giants had to bow to the demands of Brendan Rodgers‘ side and it remains to be seen whether the 26-year-old can hit the ground running from the off.

Aside from Maguire, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s side have landed the services of winger Daniel James and right-back Aaron Wan Bissaka from Swansea City and Crystal Palace respectively this summer.

Manchester United are scheduled to host Chelsea at Old Trafford in the Premier League opener on Sunday and Maguire could make his debut alongside Victor Lindelof at the heart of the defence.

Maguire in line for United debut against Chelsea

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has acknowledged that Harry Maguire is on the cusp of signing for the club and he could feature in the Premier League opener against Chelsea.

The England international has already arrived at the Red Devils’ Carrington base for the medical tests and a £85m deal is expected to be announced in the next 24 hours.

In a report covered by the club’s official website, Solskjaer confirmed that an agreement has been reached with Leicester City for the transfer of the defender and he could make his debut against the Blues on August 11.

“Let’s get the details over the line but yeah, [he could be in contention for Chelsea game]. He has played a few games in pre-season, we will have to assess him if and when,” he said.

Maguire will become the Red Devils’ third signing of the summer transfer window following the arrivals of Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Swansea City and Crystal Palace respectively.

Bruno Fernandes news

United close to Fernandes deal?

Sporting Lisbon are reportedly expecting an approach from Manchester United to secure the services of Bruno Fernandes before the Premier League transfer deadline.

The Portuguese has been linked with the likes of United, Tottenham Hotspur and Real Madrid over the past month but the former have been deemed as favourites to land his signature.

According to AS, the Primeira Liga giants are anticipating an offer from the Red Devils for the midfielder, considering there are only four days remaining before the transfer window closes in England.

Fernandes was hugely successful with Sporting last term and he contributed a stellar tally of 32 goals and 18 assists for the club while largely featuring in the centre of the park.

Meanwhile, United’s ongoing pursuit of Paulo Dybala has seemingly reached a dead end with the Juventus star reluctant to make the move to Old Trafford due to the lack of Champions League football.

Romelu Lukaku has been predicted to make the move to the Bianconeri as part of a swap deal involving Dybala and it remains to be seen whether the Serie A holders offer another player in exchange for the Belgian.

Cahill on cusp of Arsenal free transfer move?

Arsenal have tabled their first offer to sign free agent Gary Cahill. The 33-year-old defender, whose contract with former club Chelsea expired last season, has received offers from Crystal Palace, Aston Villa and now the Gunners are the most recent option that the former England international has to pick from.

After seven years with the Blues, Cahill opted to leave Stamford Bridge in favour of a move elsewhere. Today it has emerged that Arsenal manager Unai Emery wants to sign Gary Cahill as a backup centre-back for Rob Holding, who is expected to emerge back in to the first-team this season once he has fully recovered from injury. Unai Emery is also set to sell Shkodran Mustafi in the next three weeks and it is understood that Cahill is wanted not just as an important member of the squad, but also to help educate and teach the young Holding. Interestingly, both Holding and Cahill both came through the ranks at Bolton.

It is understood that Arsenal are now clear favourites to wrap up a deal for Cahill and that a one year contract is on the table at the Emirates.

Chelsea midfielder Danny Drinkwater has been linked with a transfer move to Brighton and Hove Albion this week on a season long loan deal. The England international has been informed that he is not needed at Stamford Bridge this upcoming season and could now depart the club on a temporary basis.

The Blues are ready to listen to any offers for Drinkwater, where their valuation currently stands at around £7.5 million for the former Leicester City man.

Drinkwater will be allowed to leave on loan to Brighton where new manager Graham Potter has been busy revamping his squad, having already brought in Adam Webster for a £20 million transfer fee this summer.

29-year-old Drinkwater played in just one game last season for the Blues and has three years left on his contract worth a reported £100,000 per week and it is understood that the Blues will contribute at least half of that amount for the duration of the player’s loan in order to help the player find first-team football elsewhere.
