England Players Profiles - Jermaine Jenas |
Born in Nottingham, England, to parents Denis and Lynette, Jenas was educated at the Becket School in the city. He began his football career with Nottingham Forest, and despite a good first season in 2001 - 2002, he signed for Newcastle United in February 2002 in a £5 million deal.
|
| |
His first season with his new club began well and saw him win the PFA Young Player of the Year Award for 2002 - 2003. However, the following seasons were less impressive and he started fewer and fewer games, until on August 31 2005, having scored just 12 goals from his 152 appearances for Newcastle, he was transferred to Tottenham Hotspur in a £12 million contract.

Jenas’s playing form returned, with goals scored in UEFA qualifiers and FA Cup matches. He also showed great form in the Carling Cup semi-finals against Arsenal, scoring the opener in both legs and helping send Tottenham Hotspur through to the final where he set up the winning goal over Chelsea.

| |
A new five year contract with Tottenham Hotspur was signed on 29 August 2007, and he remains with the club today. |

Jenas began his international career with the U15 squad, but made his first appearance for the seniors in February 2003 when England played Australia. He was named for the 2006 World Cup Squad, but his first international goal didn’t arrive until 6 February 2008 when England played Switzerland in a friendly.
|
| |
His last international appearance was against Brazil in November 2009.
