England Players Profiles - Joleon Lescott

Joleon Lescott was born in Brimingham, England in 1982 and was educated at the Four Dwellings High School.  Brother to Aaron Lescott of Bristol Rovers, Lescott suffered as a result of an accident when he was 5 years old, which saw him hit by a car and dragged down the road.  He has visible scars as a reminder of the unfortunate incident.

His football career began with training from the Wolverhampton Wanderers, and when he was 17 years old he debuted for their first team, going on to win the Supporters Young Player of the Year in two successive seasons.

He featured regularly over the 2002 - 2003 season, missing only one league match, appearing in FA games and playing in the match in the Millenium Stadium which saw the defeat of Sheffield United and which won Wolves promotion to the Premier League.

Despite receiving the Wolves Player of the Year Award at the end of the 2005 - 2006 season, Lescott was transferred to Everton for a fee worth £5 million dependent upon appearances.  He made his debut for his new club in August 2006, a match they won against Watford.  His first start came not long afterwards in a match against Tottenham Hotspur when Alan Stubbs was suffering from injury and unable to play.

His impressive form over the next couple of seasons saw him winning the Player’s Player of the Year Award, the Player’s Player of the Season, and Player of the Year twice.  Lescott continued to put in good performances, attracting bids from Manchester City which came at the end of the 2008 - 2009 season.  These bids were rejected, as was Lescott’s own personal request to transfer, but on 25 August 2009 an offer from Manchester City was finally accepted and Lescott signed a 5 year contract.

Internationally, Lescott represented his country in a number of youth appearances before receiving his senior squad call-up.  On 13 October 2009, Lescott came on for Rio Ferdinand at half time, making his senior team debut against Estonia.  His last appearance to date came against Brazil on 14 November 2009.
