England Players Profiles - Peter Crouch

Peter Crouch, famous not only for being the tallest footballer to ever play for the England squad at 6‘7, but also for his unique robotic victory dance which he unveiled in May 2006, was born in Cheshire although most of his childhood was spent in London.  Crouch was educated at Drayton Manor High School and began his early footballing career with Tottenham Hotspur Youth.

He signed his first professional contract for Spurs on 2 July 1998 and although he remained with them for two years he spent the majority of time on loan to foreign clubs.  The following two years were also changeable, the first spent with Queens Park Rangers in a £60,000 deal and the second involving a move to Portsmouth for £1.25 million.  He impressed during both seasons with good form

Crouch moved to Aston Villa in March 2002 for £5 million, in what would turn out to be another two year contract.  He scored during his first game with the club in a fixture against Newcastle, and went on to spend a period of time on loan to Norwich.

In a £2.5 million deal which went through in July 2004, Crouch moved to Southampton where he scored several noteworthy goals, including a late penalty which forced Portsmouth out of the FA Cup.  Although this contract had been for four years, relegation at the end of the 2004 - 2005 season saw Southampton accept a bid from Liverpool for £7 million

After a slow start, Crouch began to deliver goals in high profile Cup matches, scoring his first professional hat trick in a 4-1 win against Arsenal in March 2007.

Crouch’s transfers were not over though, and a 2008 move was on the cards, returning to Portsmouth for £11 million. Less than a year later he was in another strip again, this time belonging to another former club, Tottenham Hotspur, in a deal which he signed worth £10 million

In May 2005 Crouch got his first call-up to the senior England squad and came on in a match against Colombia.  He has appeared regularly since then, with his last international match in March 2010 when he scored twice against Egypt.
