Wes Brown was born in Longsight, Manchester and played football for his Burnage High School team as well as the Greater Manchester youth team, Fletcher Moss Rangers. He attended the FA School of Excellence as well as Manchester United’s Football Academy, finally signing his first full professional contract with Manchester United on 4 November 1996 when he was 17 years old.

During his youth career he won the Young Player of the Year Award twice, being one of only two players to receive the commendation more than once.

His Premier League first team debut came on 4 May 1998 against Leeds United and he made several more appearances in the following season. Hit by injury during 1999 - 2000 he didn't get to play a single match, but came back in following seasons to perform well. His three year goal-less play ended on 23 March 2008 when he scored the first of three goals against Liverpool.

Brown helped Manchester United achieve Premier League victories on five occasions, and in December 2007 he signed a new five year contract which will see him remain with the club until 2013. |

Brown debuted for England in April 1999 against Hungary and joined England’s efforts in the 2002 FIFA World Cup. He was called up again in the 2005 - 2006 friendly against Uruguay but never actually played, and then failed to make it into the 2006 FIFA World Cup squad.

His first and only England goal to date came during a friendly against the Czech Republic on 20 August 2008. That game, which tied at 1 - 1, was played in London.

Brown last appeared for England in March 2010 when he played against Egypt.
