Tom Finney was an English footballer who was active from 1946 until 1960. As well as playing for England on 76 occasions he played 433 times for Preston North End at club level. He became club president at Preston.
He was presented with an OBE in 1961 and a CBE in 1992.
When he died on 14 February 2014, The Football Association called him “One of England’s all-time greatest players”, with former teammate and Liverpool manager Bill Shankly going as far as to call him “the greatest player to ever play the game”.
