Drinkwater set for Chelsea return

Burnley will reportedly turn down the option to extend the loan contract of midfielder Danny Drinkwater beyond the turn of the year. The 29-year-old joined the Clarets from the Blues on a six-month loan deal in August to resurrect his flagging career but things have failed to pave the way as planned.

Drinkwater has been sidelined from first-team duties since September after getting injured in a brawl outside a nightclub and he has yet to make a Premier League appearance for the Clarets.

According to The Sun, Sean Dyche‘s side have the option of extending the midfielder’s temporary deal by another six months but they are likely to turn down the option.

The former Premier League midfielder has struggled to command regular gametime since his move to Chelsea and he has managed 12 league appearances over the past two years.

Blues boss Frank Lampard has already deemed Drinkwater as surplus to requirements and the midfielder would certainly have to pursue another challenge elsewhere, should Burnley send him back to Stamford Bridge.

Dier on his way out of Spurs?

England international Eric Dier will reportedly be placed in the transfer market by Tottenham Hotspur at the turn of the year.

The 25-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at Spurs in recent seasons and he has managed just two top-flight appearances this term.

According to The Sun, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is keen to parting ways with players, who are running down their contracts or out-of-favour at the club.

It is added that Dier could be among a long list of players including Christian EriksenSerge AurierVictor Wanyama and Danny Rose, who could be shown the exit door in January.

Dier has been with the north London side for the past five years and he was initially lauded for his versatility of playing in the midfield or defence with consistency.

However, his performances have dipped in the past few seasons and he has mostly been an unused substitute this term with Pochettino favouring the likes of Harry Winks, Moussa Sissoko and Tanguy Ndombele ahead of him for the midfield duties

No January bid for Neymar for Barcelona

Neymar: Barcelona won’t be his next destination

Barcelona will not make a move for Neymar in the January transfer window, despite missing out on re-signing the Brazilian international during the summer. The Paris St Germain striker is unhappy at the Ligue 1 side and has been constantly linked with a return to his former club.

Josep Maria Bartomeu has ruled out a return for the player, seemingly leaving Real Madrid as the sole suitors for the Brazilian international. Many Premier League teams have been interested in signing Neymar, but the striker is reportedly unwilling to move to England.

“He’s not in the plans for January,” Bartomeu said. “Barcelona couldn’t meet PSG’s demands [this summer]. Barcelona never offered players for Neymar, it was PSG that asked for them. We did everything possible to sign him. It’s a fact that Neymar asked PSG to negotiate only with Barcelona. Lionel Messi didn’t tell me to sign Neymar, that’s a myth. The players don’t have a say in signings.”

Paris St Germain are ready to sell their star player for a fee of around 200 million euros.

James Maddison news

Maddison wanted by United in January

Manchester United will reportedly make an approach to sign James Maddison from Leicester City when the transfer window reopens in the New Year.

The Red Devils suffered a 2- 1 loss to Crystal Palace in the recent league clash and this has already left them five points behind table-toppers Liverpool.

According to The Mirror, the club are likely to recruit a creative playmaker in the New Year after failing to do so during the recently-concluded transfer window.

The same report suggests that Maddison has been earmarked as the prime target but the club may struggle to find the breakthrough over a transfer deal with the Foxes.

The east Midlands outfit played hardball over the negotiations for Harry Maguire until a £80m fee was agreed earlier this month and it is claimed that the Foxes would demand a similar fee for Maddison.

Still, they have generally been reluctant to lose their players at the midstage of the season and they are most likely to reject the advances from the Red Devils.

Maddison bagged seven goals and seven assists in his maiden Premier League season last term. He has started the new season in good form with two assists from three appearances.
