Mount requires late fitness test for Palace clash – Lampard

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has revealed that Mason Mount has recovered from his ankle problem but a late fitness test will determine his involvement against Crystal Palace.

The England international sustained the injury during the midweek Champions League clash against Ajax where the Blues registered a 4-4 draw from 4-1 down.

Mount was initially predicted to miss the weekend’s London derby against Palace but Lampard has now confirmed that Mount will feature, provided he is able to pass the fitness test.

“With Mason, he’s in the squad. We’re giving him another 24 hours and we’ll make a call on that one in the morning,” he was quoted as saying by the club’s official website.

Mount has been ever-present for the Blues in the Premier League and Champions League this season and has contributed four goals and an assist in all competitions.

His potential absence against the Eagles could offer Callum Hudson-Odoi with a starting role. Christian Pulisic may shift to the number 10 position for Hudson-Odoi to feature on the left wing.

Up and coming teenager Mason Greenwood has signed a new contract with Manchester United, signalling the club’s intent to make the England youth international an important member of the first team in the near future. Greenwood has put pen to paper on a contract with United until 2023.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has yet to expose Greenwood to too much playing time, but will be delighted to have brought through the player as a bit-part performer so far this season.

“Mason has progressed through our outstanding academy and we are delighted with the progress he has made,” Solskjaer said.

“At such a young age, he already has great pace and intelligence and he is such a natural finisher. Since he came into the first team, he has really impressed everyone with his drive and attitude, he has all the attributes to become a top player.”

“Having grown up as a Manchester United fan, playing for the first team is a real dream come true,” Greenwood said of his new deal.

“I know that, when I play for this club, I represent the whole academy and I want to repay the faith that my coaches have shown in me with my performances on the pitch. I am learning all the time from the manager and his coaching staff and I know that this is the perfect club to help me reach my potential.”

Chelsea receive fresh update on Mason Mounts ankle injury

Mount could feature against Liverpool

Chelsea have received a positive update on midfielder Mason Mount following the ankle injury sustained during the Champions League clash against Valencia.

The England international picked up the damage following a strong tackle from Francis Coquelin in midweek and it was initially indicated that he may have sustained a long-term setback.

However, according to The Sun, that does not appear the case with scans showing that the 20-year-old has not damaged any ligaments through the challenge from the former Arsenal man.

It is added that the Blues graduate remains a touch and go for the forthcoming Premier League clash against Liverpool and a late fitness test may determine his involvement.

Mount has been a revelation for the Blues since making his debut at the start of the campaign and he has already contributed three goals in the Premier League, where he has featured in the number 10 role.

Aside from Mount, Fikayo Tomori and Tammy Abraham have been handed with the opportunity to impress under Lampard and the duo have likewise delivered with standout performances.
