Chelsea planning to trigger release clause for German striker?

Werner to Chelsea?

Chelsea are reportedly planning to trigger the release clause of German striker Timo Werner with manager Frank Lampard aiming to strengthen the centre-forward department in the New Year.

Tammy Abraham has been the undisputed starter to lead the line for the Blues this term and he has already netted 13 times in all competitions for the club.

Still, Lampard is said to be eyeing competition for the England international and The Express claims that Werner is the prime target on their radar for the winter transfer window.

The same outlet claims that the German could be available for a release clause of just £27m and the club are seriously considering an approach for the former Stuttgart youngster.

Werner has been in stupendous form for Leipzig in all competitions this season and he has already amassed 21 goals and seven assists under the guidance of Julian Nagelsmann.

As many as 10 European sides are said to be vying for his signature next month, the Blues’ prospects of signing him could depend on whether they can assure him with a starting spot.

Chelsea offer out-of-favour striker to AC Milan?

Giroud set for move to Serie A?

Chelsea have reportedly offered AC Milan with the chance to sign Olivier Giroud on a cut-price deal when the transfer window reopens next month.

The Frenchman has received limited first-team action under the guidance of Frank Lampard and he only made his second league start of the season last weekend.

That decision came as a result of Tammy Abraham‘s injury setback and Giroud is well aware that he will be dropped when the England international makes his return in the near future.

According to Calciomercato, the Blues are more than willing to offload Giroud in the New Year and they have presented the Rossoneri with the chance to sign the former Arsenal man.

The Serie A outfit are currently looking at a reunion with Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who is available on a free transfer but reports indicate that they could turn their attention to Giroud, should the move fall through.

AC Milan’s cross-town rivals Inter have also been linked with the marksman in recent weeks. Antonio Conte, formerly of Chelsea, is keen on adding competition to Lautaro Martinez and Romelu Lukaku for the striker positions.

Lampard heaps praise on Abraham

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has heaped praise on Tammy Abraham following his match-winning impact against Crystal Palace over the weekend.

The England international made a tough start against the Eagles as he struggled to gain possession of the ball but he made amends after the break with a calm and collective finish past goalkeeper Vicente Guaita.

Abraham thereafter squandered another chance to find the net but that did not hamper the Blues with Christian Pulisic doubling the advantage in the 79th minute.

Following the game, Lampard revealed that he had offered some advice to Abraham at the interval and he is pleased that the marksman kept on going and found the breakthrough.

“He needed to liven up a bit but if you stick with it then you’ll get your moment and top strikers do. At the moment he’s proved himself to be that this season. The question is can he keep doing it? But what I see from his mentality and desire, I believe he can,” he told Sky Sports.

Abraham’s strike against Palace meant that he became the second youngest player after Arjen Robben to score 10 league goals for the west London giants.

The Blues graduate has been called up by the Three Lions for the forthcoming internationals against Montenegro and Kosovo, and it remains to be seen whether Abraham is handed with his maiden start.
