Aston Villa and Crystal Palace have both entered the race to sign Ashley Young from Manchester United during the ongoing transfer window.

The England international has less than six months remaining on his contract with the Red Devils and he has recently made his mind up to leave the club rather than seeing out his deal.

Inter Milan have been touted as favourites to acquire his signature this month but it appears that the club have yet to find the breakthrough in terms of the transfer fee for Young.

Amidst this, The Sun claims that both Palace and former club Villa have expressed an interest in Young and they are optimistic of taking advantage of the contract situation.

Young was not included in the Red Devils’ matchday squad to face Norwich City over the weekend and reports have claimed that the versatile player may have played his final game in the club’s colours.

Villa sign Drinkwater on loan

Premier League side Aston Villa have confirmed the signing of Danny Drinkwater on a short-term loan agreement from Chelsea.

The England international spent the first half of the season on a temporary deal at Burnley but he struggled for gametime and managed just one appearance in the Premier League.

As a result, the Clarets did not take the option of retaining his services for the second half of the campaign and this has allowed the Villains to acquire the midfielder’s signature on loan for the rest of the season.

“Danny was a key member of Leicester City‘s title-winning team and has represented England, so he is a vastly experienced player. He will strengthen our squad significantly,” Villains boss Dean Smith told the club’s official website.

Villa are expected to be without goalkeeper Tom Heaton and striker Wesley for the rest of the campaign. John McGinn is sidelined for the next three months with an ankle problem and Drinkwater should replace the Scot in the club’s midfield.

Adebayor set for a move back to England

Aston Villa have reportedly been offered the chance to sign Togo international striker Emmanuel Adebayor on a free transfer. The forward, who had a spell with Man City, Tottenham and Arsenal in the past, is looking for a return to England and his eye on a move to another Premier League side.

Villa are looking to add attacking options to their squad after the long-term injury of forward Wesley.

Adebayor’s last spell in England was at Crystal Palace, where he scored just one goal in 15 games.

The forward is believed to be ready to accept a fee of around £30,000 per week for a move to England.

Adebayor also had a spell last year with Turkish side Kayserispor where he proved to be a resounding success, but the club decided not to give the striker a fresh contract.

It is also understood that Aston Villa will do battle with several other candidates, including French club Rennes and Italian side AC Milan, as well as Spanish side Villarreal who will submit an offer to the forward this week.

Calum Chambers news

Chambers delighted with Arsenal’s triumph over Villa

Arsenal defender Calum Chambers has hailed the fighting spirit from the side after they secured a tremendous 3-2 comeback win over Aston Villa with 10 men.

The Villains took the lead through John McGinn in the first half after another defensive mishap from the Gunners and things became worse before the break as Ainsley Maitland-Niles was sent off for two yellow cards offences.

To cover Maitland-Niles’ sending off, Chambers was brought onto the field in the right-back spot in the expense of Bukayo Saka and the England international made a key difference in the game.

Chambers was guilty of squandering possession at 1-1 which contributed to the Villains scoring for the second time in the match but he made up for the same with a sublime finish in the 81st minute to level the proceedings.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang‘s stellar free-kick three minutes later sealed the victory for the Gunners and this has taken the Gunners back into the top four of the Premier League.

Speaking after the game, Chambers admitted that he made the mistake in the lead up to the second goal but he is glad that he could put things right and contribute towards the win.

“I am very pleased. I hold my hand up to their second goal so I had to put things right. ‘We stuck in there and worked hard and deserved it in the end,” he told Sky Sports.
